Petra Kvitova well supported to win 2011 Australian Open
Australian tennis fans weren’t the only losers when Sam Stosur was bundled out of the Australian Open on Saturday.
Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said his company faced a significant payout should her round conqueror ,Petra Kvitova, manage to win the tournament.
“We had one punter place $500 at $151 shortly after Kvitova took the Brisbane International,” said Sullivan.
“On top of that we’ve taken bets of $2000 at $41 and $2000 at $23 during the Open.
“The long odds bets are looking sharp when you consider that Kvitova’s odds are now into $9 but she does have a potential quarter final match up with Zvonareva and if she gets through that, a semi final that will probably be against Clijsters.
“It’s not often we get to cheer the favourites but we look certain to in those matches.”
The 25th ranked Kvitova is a firm $1.65 favourite for her fourth round clash with 22nd ranked Italian Flavia Pennetta.
