Nadal & Federer equal favourites in 2011 Australian Open odds

Punters with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au have come out in force for Roger Federer in the past 48 hours which now sees the defending champion equal favourite at $3 with world number one Rafael Nadal to win the 2011 Australian Open.

“Since the weekend Roger Federer has been backed in from $3.25 to $3 which has seen Rafael Nadal’s price ease from $2.80 to $3,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Haydn Lane.

“Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic remain solid at $7, while there has also been support for Robin Soderling who is $19 into $17 after defeating Andy Roddick in the Brisbane International.

“The betting for the women’s title is far more clear cut with more than half of all bets on Kim Clijsters who is now into $3.25.”

Lane said patriotic punters had put their hard-earned behind the two main local hopes.

“From a bookmaking perspective, Lleyton Hewitt and Sam Stosur are comfortably our two worst results, but we’d gladly hand over the cash if we can get an Aussie grand slam win on home soil!”

Sportsbet.com.au rates Sam Stosur a $15 chance to win in Melbourne, while Lleyton Hewitt is priced at $126.
