2011 Asian Cup Final – Socceroos well backed to beat Japan

The Socceroos are now $1.83 favourites to win the Asian Cup this weekend after a wave of big bets flowed in for the Aussies following their demolition of Uzbekistan.

Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said punters who got on at odds as big as $6.00 would be in good spirits.

“We took four figure bets at $6.00, $5.50 and $5.00 on the way through so there’s plenty of punters who got on at the right price,” said Sullivan.

“After their 6-0 routing of Uzbekistan and with the news that Japan’s Kagawa will miss the final they could now start even shorter than the $1.83 currently on offer.

“The Socceroos have been the only side punters have wanted to back with bets of $5000, $4000 and $2000 already placed and I would expect plenty more money to arrive before kickoff.”

Japan are currently $1.95 outsiders, with $4.50 the best price bet over the course of the tournament.

Sullivan said Harry Kewell had also been the punters early pick for first goal scorer following his outstanding form in the tournament so far.

“We took a bet of $1000 at $6.50 on Kewell as soon as we put the market up and I would expect punters to keep coming for him and also for Tim Cahill,” Sullivan said.
