Bookie still backing Ian Thorpe comeback
Despite failing to set the world on fire in his return to the pool, online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au still believes Ian Thorpe will wear the green and gold at the 2012 London Olympics.
The ‘Thorpedo’ has held firm at $1.50 to make the Australian London Olympics Team despite his recent poor showing at the Italian Winter Championships.
While he appears likely to make it to London, winning gold will be another challenge all together, with Thorpe paying $8.50 to win at least one gold medal.
“We know he hasn’t dominated just yet, but he still has plenty of time to regain his form before the team is selected,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Shaun Anderson.
“We think he’ll make it to London, but whether he can add to his gold medal collection is another challenge altogether.”
Fellow comeback champ Geoff Huegill seems a certainty to make the Aussie team at $1.03, while Libby Trickett is also firm at $1.50.
Michael Klim has the biggest challenge ahead of him, paying $2.50 to make the team, and $1.50 to miss out.
