Plunge on Luke Donald to win Australian Masters

World number one Luke Donald has been the subject of a huge betting plunge to win the Australian Masters shortening from $6.00 to $5.00 with Sportingbet Australia following some massive bets.

Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said Donald was the only one the punters wanted which was understandable after the Englishman became the first player to top both the US and Eurpoean money lists.

“We took a bet of $80,000 at $6.00 to win $400,000 and the big bets have kept coming with bets of $5000 and $2000 since we turned him off to $5.00,” Sullivan said.

“It is not hard to see why punters want to back him after the year he has had and you would think he will be right in the finish come Sunday afternoon as long as handles the Australian conditions.

“We are already standing him for well over $500,000 and I can only see that figure getting bigger.”

Sullivan said Greg Chalmers and John Senden had been the best backed of the Australians both shortening from $17 to $15.

“Greg Chalmers is obviously in superb form and punters thought the $17 about him achieving the triple crown looked attractive after winning the Australian Open and PGA,” he said.

“Senden has been thereabouts all summer too and has been well backed while there has also been a nibble for Jarrod Lyle and Nathan Green after good performances in America.”
