Jason Krejza backed to be highest wicket taker in 2011 ICC World Cup
Jason Krejza was huge odds to be on the plane to the World Cup just a week ago but now punters are backing him heavily to Australia’s leading wicket taker at the tournament.
Krejza only got a call up after both Nathan Hauritz and Xavier Doherty were ruled out through injury but he is now into $5.50 to take more wickets than the likes of Brett Lee, Shaun Tait and Mitchell Johnson.
Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said Krejza had been the only one punters had wanted since his call up which wasn’t a huge surprise as he should be suited in Indian conditions.
“He has been backed from $6.50 to $5.50 already with many punters predicting spin will dominate on the turning sub continent decks,” Sullivan said.
“Many fans have also been calling for Krejza to get a recall to the Australian side following his twelve wickets in a test in India a couple of years ago so it wasn’t a huge surprise to see money arrive for him.
“He is a genuine wicket taker which is why punters are backing him in this market but I am not sure he helps Australia’s chances of winning the World Cup hugely.
“If we had a market on who would be the most economical bowler, he would be close to the outsider and we saw some of the English get after him the other night.”
Brett Lee is the $4.00 favourite to be Australia’s leading wicket taker ahead of Johnson at $5.00 and Tait at $5.50.
