Prince William odds-on to succeed Queen Elizabeth

Leading online bookmaker Sportsbet.com.au have made Prince William their $1.80 odds-on favourite to succeed Queen Elizabeth and become the next British Monarch.

Sportsbet.com.au issued their odds following the result of a recent English television (ITV) poll which found 58 percent of Australians wanted to see Prince William crowned King, compared to just 30 percent for his father Prince Charles.

Despite Prince William’s growing popularity, Australia is a $1.50 favourite to become a Republic before 31st December 2014.

“It’s fair to say Prince Charles’ popularity in Australia pales in comparison to that of Prince William, as shown by the ITV survey,” said Sportsbet.com.au’s Haydn Lane.

“Notwithstanding Prince William’s popularity, we think there’s another republican challenge in the wings and that Australia will become a Republic within the next five years.”
