Mick Malthouse firms in betting for Melbourne Demons senior coach

Mick Malthouse and Rodney Eade have been the best backed in the past 48 hours to be the next permanent senior coach of the Melbourne Football Club with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au.

Both opened at $10, with Malthouse now into $6.00 and Eade into $6.50.

Former Port Adelaide senior coach Mark Williams is the third favourite at $7.00, in from peak price of $17, while current Hawthorn senior coach Alastair Clarkson has been backed from $17 into $9.00.

“Punters clearly believe Melbourne will go after someone with senior coaching experience,” sportsbet.com.au’s Haydn Lane said.

“Malthouse and Eade have been the two that punters are really interested in, while there’s also been some support for Williams and to a lesser extent Clarkson.”

Melbourne legend Garry Lyon, the early $5 favourite in sportsbet.com.au’s initial market, has now eased out to $10.

“There was some early money for Lyon but that has dried up now on the back of his continued public denials about his desire to coach.”

Caretaker coach Mark Bickley remains the $2.40 favourite to be Adelaide’s senior coach in 2012.
