Gold Coast suns backed to win a game during 2011 season
Punters have strongly disagreed with Sportingbet’s Australia assessment of the Gold Coast Suns chances of winning a game in 2011 with the fledgling club backed from $2.25 to $1.40 to record a win.
Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said he had given the Suns little chance of winning a game but the phone had been ringing off the hook since the market was posted on Monday.
“After watching their performances against Carlton and Bulldogs, I can’t see where their first win is coming from especially with Campbell Brown being suspended,” Sullivan said.
“Punters have spoken though crunching their price in with over $25,000 worth of bets coming in the first couple of hours of betting and it seems no one agrees with our assessment that they won’t win a game.
“We had posted them as $1.60 to not win a match but that is now out to $2.80 following the huge flow of money the other way.”
Sullivan said he was happy to take the punters on though as while the Suns may improve a little as they gel as a group, he thought they had a long season in front of them.
“The Suns might improve a little over the coming weeks but I actually think they will get worse again towards the back half of the season,” he said.
“One or two injuries to key players and we could see some record scores put up on them.
“They have so many kids in their team who will have good moments but you would have to severely doubt their ability to perform every week over a season.”
